Never before has it been so important to look after number 1. These are, without a doubt, times like we have never experienced before, and it can be very easy to become overwhelmed with feelings of worry and panic.
A lot of what is happening is beyond our control so it’s vital that you take good care of yourself, both physically and mentally.
I would be lying if I said I hadn’t woken up extremely early over the past few days, without being able to get back to sleep, but I’ve turned that to its advantage and used the extra time to get up and write posts such as these to help and support you guys – I am better at writing in the morning anyway, so that’s Win Number 1!!
Let’s use this experience as an opportunity to re-evaluate certain aspects of our lives. There’s a high chance that many of us will have more time on our hands, and from a nutrition and weight loss perspective, if you’ve always seen tracking your calories as time-consuming, now you have that time to really get stuck into it! 😁
For now, the schools are open, so if you are working from home, aim to set aside some free time during a lunch hour to read a book you’ve been meaning to for however long, or go for a walk now that the weather is finally starting to improve! Or take that time to meditate or practise mindfulness, these things will help relieve your stress.
Sleep is of paramount importance, we simply function better as human beings when we’ve had good quality sleep, but there’s no denying that getting that sleep is going to be more challenging for some, so now is a great time to set up a regular bedtime routine. This can include things such as no screen activity 1 hour before bed and reading a book instead, listening to calming music, or a mindfulness app, diffusing lavender oil is very calming, as is some light stretching.
Whatever you do, try not to worry about the things that are out of your control, there’s nothing you can do about them, and worrying doesn’t change anything other than your mental state. Keep looking after number 1, and you will be in a good place to look after those around you.
Stay safe everyone, and wash your hands 😉
